Over the last two years, the Ecorse Historical Society has been the recipient of many gifts from individuals and families with a relationship to Ecorse. Our collections continue to grow as more heirlooms are donated to us.
The major project for the EHS is to find a home to hold our many collections including those about ships, farming, period furniture, folk art and textiles. Our collection also includes rare and historic books, records, manuscripts, maps, and post cards. Family memorabilia, photographs and other historical documents that the EHS would love to make accessible to the public for viewing and research, as well.
The property the has been provided to the EHS by the city of Ecorse is locally known as "the barn" and is located on the corner of Pepper Road and W. Outer Drive. Our vision for the community is to provide a common place for gatherings, programs, school outings, meetings, and private functions. Sadly, Ecorse does not possess such a venue and the urgency is great! This, of course, come with a cost. With grant funding, in-kind donations, and YOUR contributions we can get it done. The estimated cost is approximately $230,000 and our community is in great need of YOUR support!
It is the vision of the EHS and the city of Ecorse to have this vision become a reality by summer 2019. Will you please help?
